A young Jewish American man sets out to find a woman who saved his Ukrainian grandfather during WWII. He finds her small house in the middle of a field of sunflowers.

My love of landscapes, plants and their relationships to people pursues me even when relaxing. This was very apparent on a recent Saturday evening when watching a relatively new film.

Everything is Illuminated (2005) is identified as a comedy / drama at the Internet Movie DataBase (IMDB) as well as on the DVD cover. I borrowed the movie from our local library for this reason, and also because two of its shooting locations were in an area fascinating to me - Lvov, Ukraine and Odessa, Ukraine.

I was surprised at some of the concluding scenes of the movie and even more so with what a little research taught me about the landscape of the Ukraine and sunflowers. If you would like to know more about what I learned please read Movies, Landscapes and Sunflowers.
