Lenore Hedla, 91, author of "Alaska Gardener's Handbook." died this past week at home looking out at her beloved Anchorage garden...

From Barbara Bell, my friend and editor of Suite101's Home and Garden section, comes this link in the Anchorage (Alaska) Daily News: Queen of gardens in Alaska is gone...
LENORE HEDLA: Her "Alaska Gardener's Handbook" is a bible.
By DEBRA McKINNEY, Anchorage Daily News
Published: October 20, 2006 It's hard to imagine a more peaceful place. Four acres of woods, lawns and gardens on a bluff overlooking Turnagain Arm. A place of stunning sunsets frequented by moose. This gives solace to those who loved Lenore Hedla, 91, author of "Alaska Gardener's Handbook." She died Monday at home. She just wore out, friends said. If her time was up and she had to go, this was the way she wanted to do it. No, make that insisted. I always mourn the passing of a passionate gardener whether his/her garden is many acres large or a few pots of tomatoes on a fire escape. All of us are enriched when a passionate person brings a unique beauty to our lives. You can read more about Lenore Hedla and see a few pictures at Debra McKinney's article in the Anchorage Daily News.
