Calling all baseball fans! When Mets' pitcher Pedro Martínez is scheduled to pitch at Shea Stadium he spends two hours working in and enjoying his home landscape...

According to a May 9, 2006 NY Times Sports Article by JULIET MACUR titled Off Mound, Mets' Ace Loosens Up in His Garden, Mets' pitcher Pedro Martinez has a garden sanctuary in Greenwich, CT. "I couldn't sacrifice myself or live the fast life we have to live (as a pitcher) if I didn't have a place like this to find peace," he said (in the Times article), gesturing toward his eight acres, which are half wooded and half landscaped with flowers and blooming trees like dogwoods and crabapples.

A neat article...if you can not access it through the NY Times link given here, perhaps you can find this May 9th article at your local library. It is certainly a pick-me-up kind of article.
