Historic Garden Week - 2006 in Charlottesville and Albemarle County, VA from April 22 - 25 is sponsored by Albemarle Garden Club, Charlottesville Garden Club and Rivanna Garden Club to benefit The Garden Club of VA Restorations. Moven, on the National Register of Historic Places and the VA Landmarks Register, Gardens are open on the 22nd; these gardens contain the state champion Chinese chestnut tree, a pair of 100-year-old Osage-orange-trees and a dove-tree. The Country Homes and Gardens Tour, on the 23rd and 24th, features seven private gardens in the countryside. The University of VA opens portions of the Academic Village (National Register of Historic Places, VA landmarks Register, National Historic Landmark and the World Heritage List) to visitors on the 25th. The Pavilion Gardens at UVA and their surrounding serpentine walls were reconstructed on their old alignments by the Garden Club of VA with proceeds from Historic Garden Week.
